GARDEN CITY, Idaho (CBS2) — For the kids, this is the mantra of The Freedom Youth Foundation, and it’s their reason for opening a new building space. The nonprofit has been serving the foster community through athletics for years. Newly rebranded, they are continuing that mission while adding additional resources.
Shane Hanson, the founder, said, “This is a monumental milestone for the organization and it’s not possible without our partners and the community.” He says the new building will help fill some gaps for a few of their programs while creating space for new programs to start. Now they will be able to hold their educational classes like financial literacy and employment workshops in their building.
They also are starting a new program called Parker’s Closet, where foster kids can have a shopping experience, with all brand new clothes donated from stored and boutiques. Shane said, “That’s how we stock it up and supplement it with sponsors. So a lot of it is donated, but as kids come in on emergency placements, if they don’t have the clothes we go get them the clothes that they need and they deserve.”
The Director of the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare also spoke saying these are the kinds of community partnerships that will create change. Director Adams said, “This is a force for good in this state, this is a force for good and that’s what the Freedom Youth Foundation and the partnership with the department has been for us.”
