College and Trade School
Freedom Youth Foundation is excited to award Educational and Trade Scholarships, providing $10,000 per recipient to support foster youth pursuing higher education or skilled trade programs. Open to high school juniors, seniors, and aged-out foster youth up to age 23, these scholarships help cover tuition, books, tools, and other essential school-related expenses, empowering youth to take meaningful steps toward their future.
Requirements
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be a foster, kinship, or adopted youth from the Idaho Foster Care system
- Be a high school junior or senior, or aged-out foster youth up to age 23
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Submit a 1,000 - 1,500 word essay addressing educational / career goals, how their foster / kinship / adoption experience has shaped them, and how this scholarship will support their goals.
- Provide proof of 10 hours of community service
- Participate in 8 hours of FYF Foundations for Your Future training
- Submit the most recent report card or transcript
- Complete an interview with the FYF Scholarship Committee
Tutoring
Our Tutoring Scholarships support academic success for foster, kinship, and adopted youth in grades 1 through 12. With up to $1,000 per student per school year, these scholarships help fund individualized tutoring services designed to strengthen learning, build confidence, and support long-term educational growth.
Requirements
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be a foster, kinship, or adopted youth from the Idaho Foster Care system
- Be enrolled in school grades 1-12 (public, charter, private, or homeschool)
- Demonstrate academic need via a written recommendation from caregiver, teacher, or caseworker documenting: difficulty meeting grade level standards, gaps in foundational skills, and / or learning challenges requiring additional support
- Provide a 2-3 sentence statement explaining the student's goal
- Commit to consistent tutoring sessions throughout the school year
- Complete an interview with the FYF Director of Operations
Sports and Engagement
The Sports and Engagement Scholarships encourage healthy development and community connection for youth ages 8 to 18 who are involved in sports or structured extracurricular activities. Awards of up to $1,000 per youth per year help cover participation costs and are granted based on engagement points earned through Freedom Youth Foundation events, volunteerism, and community involvement.
Requirements
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be a foster, kinship, or adopted youth from the Idaho Foster Care system
- Be ages 8 - 18
- Be in the Top 10 group of youth with the highest FYF engagement points
- Have at least a 2.0 GPA or passing grade
- Provide proof of 5 hours of community service
- Provide proof of active participation and commitment to sports or structured extracurricular activity
- Submit a 250-500 word essay describing how sports / extracurricular activities have impacted them, their future goals, and how the scholarship will help
- Complete an interview with the FYF Director of Operations
